Emails following the Homecoming Game and the party at Patty's

Event date: Friday, 10/5/2007

From Allen Bettis (acbettis@sbcglobal.net)

Hey Everyone!

Sorry it has taken so long to respond, I needed a week to recover from the shindig! What an outstanding party! The memories of South Austin friends and parties from long ago were as thick as flies on the backend of Bubba's cow!

For folks that haven't consistently been together for 30 years, it was truly remarkable that the attendees could pick-up where we left off in 1978 and just keep on truckin' like we were 18 again. Seeing all of you was such a tonic for the heart and soul. Liz was a wonderful and beautiful hostess, her house was a knock-out and that yard was so singularly South Austin... all of ya'll who could not make it really missed a great experience. I hope there'll been another occasion.

Like Jeff, I was floored seeing lovely Molly in her 9th grade cheerleading outfit, wow! Dana, Patty, Sylvia, Stephanie, Kim, and Caren were all as beautiful and sweet as ever! If I missed anyone, forgive me, age and alcohol has a tendency to take a toll. And all you good 'ol boys... what a treat getting to visit and reminisce! Please keep in touch! Thank you all for including my family and I and being so gracious. Between the visiting, the partying, chasing four kids, and keeping the boys from tearing up Liz's lovely home... what a night! I hope we can all do this together again, soon! I love all you nuts!

Take Care,

Allen

I just wanted to second Jeff and Stephanie's comments.  It was great seeing everyone again who made it, we missed those of you who couldn't attend.  Liz, you were a fantastic host, and I love your house and yard.  And I agree with Shephanie's daughter - Donny, for an old guy you are a handsome devil. :)

Take care everyone, we'll do it again soon I'm sure.  In fact, one of these days we should probably start discussing the "official" reunion, but that's another email.

Take care,

-Bobby

From Stephanie (steffery@hotmail.com)

It was really GREAT to see everyone. Sorry I had to check out early from the party but I had to get up really early to get to the hospital to be with my dad for the day!!

It felt like we had all never been apart...pretty incredible! The kids these days don't know what they are missing. I think we all need to plan a cruise??? Whatcha think???

I will be moving on the 16th to Vancouver for a year (my husband is already there)...any takers lots of fishing and skiing...everyones welcome will give more info in another email when we get settled.

I have to say now that EVERYONE looked great and LIZ you really outdid (south austin slang) yourself!! All the girls got mums and they were gorgeous!! I will wear mine to our 30th Homecoming!!

Sylvia...looking good girl!!!

And Molly...looks great...and only SHE could get into her 9th grade cheerleading uniform and it fit...as a matter of fact it really was a little big... congrats Molly!!

I left as Patty fell and hit her head...I am here to attest to the fact she didnt spill a drop!! WE couldnt tell if she was laughing or crying then we heard her snort....we knew then she was laughing! I am sure she had quite the knot on her head. Sorry Patty!!

Jeff and Buddy, we all appreciate you guys rounding up the troups...the reason we are having great success pulling everyone together is because we have GREAT leaders... Jeff you should have been Buddy's right hand man in High School.

Oh and by the way....Donny Finger gets the cutest guy award from my 21 yr old daughter ...she said "He's hot for an older guy" LOL I about wet my pants laughing...I couldnt believe that came out of her mouth when I hopped in the car with her...and Liz she LOVED your decorating...being a hairsylist she is really into that...it was gorgeous Liz!!

Thanks for the memories!! See you all at the 30th!!

Love yall!

Steph

From Jeff Shepperd (intheneck12@hotmail.com)

Hello boys and girls. Another Class of 78 event came off without any issues. It seems like we are professional partiers, and we should be. This crew that showed up may not have been as large as the last group at Caren's, but it was every bit as rowdy, maybe more so. We started off at Liz Wright's BEAUTIFUL home with a Tailgate type party. By the way, Ive played on Golf Courses that werent at nice as Liz's yard. Anyway, we loaded up on a 15 ft flatbed trailer, decorated with brown and gold streamers(Patty Fossett did it) and headed to the game. We were the LOUDEST group of students their, no doubt. Its amazing what a few margaritas will do to someone's vocal chords! Although our alma mater lost 37-20, we had a BLAST!! We went back to Liz's home and really made fools of ourselves. It was a great time once again, and Liz was a wonderful hostess. There are a few post- party awards to give out, so lets get to them!!

Outstanding Gymnast Award-- Patty Fossett-- Patty perfectly executed the "rolling back flip off an ottoman". Degree of difficluty 3.2 . I gave her a 9.95 on my scorecard, but, the Romanian judge only gave her an 8.0. She had a major deduction,in his opinion, because of her landing. Patty will no longer be known as Patty Fossett. Her new name is Patty"Conehead"Fossett in reference to the large eggshaped bump on her head!!! By the way, in true South Austin fashion, she didnt spill a single drop of her wine. Thats why I gave her the 9.95 score!!

School Spirit Award--Molly Ward-- Molly showed up in her authentic Cheerleader Uniform, complete with a pair of Gold and Brown pom-poms! When she came bouncing into Liz's house, I though I was going to bust a gut laughing. That was until we went to the game. When I watched Molly beat the crap out of the Cougar Mascot, THAT,my friends, was the funniest thing I had EVER seen in my life. Molly may be small, but Im not gonna piss her off anytime soon LOL. Im not making this stuff up, we have pics on the wiki page to prove it. All kidding aside, GREAT JOB Molly. You are AWESOME.

TexAnn Appreciation Award--Dana Heiling-- For all of you former TexAnn's, I want you to know that our girl,Dana, upheld the tradition in the highest manner. When the current group of TexAnn's came out to do their dance routine,Dana stood up in the stands and leg kicked with those youngsters. She was in PERFECT sequence and rythym. Dana can still shake her butt with the best of those 'girls'!! However, she DID NOT wear her Green Eyeshadow, so NO Demarits for her,Mary Beth. You are a joy to party with Dana.

Comeback Player of the Year Award--Buddy Dunn-- Our very own Wiki Master made it through all of the activities in fine shape. Its hard to keep a good man down, and we all know what kind of man Mr Dunn is. He wasnt going to let his friends have fun without him participating as well. You are a testament to the "Livestrong"motto, my friend. I REALLY appreciate you. Now just send the $5.00 you promised me for writing this to..... LOL

Honorary Cougar Award-- Patty's friend and Co-worker Dennis-- I didnt make him an honorary Class of 78 member. I wouldnt curse anyone like that, however, he providied the tickets to the game ,GRATIS!!(that means free for you non -latin speaking types LOL). Anyway, thanks so much Dennis for hooking us up.If you would like honorary CHS 78 status, you are taking your life into your own hands, amigo.

New enlistees into the "Hardcore Club"-- Allen Bettis, his wife and 4 kids(youngest age 2!!)-- Stephanie Schmidt(football game and after-party goer. I was really glad you came Steph), Craig Briggs and his better half(Craig looks exactly the same, I was beginning to think it may have been his son posing as him!!) Kim Ellison(Kim attended the game, then had to go BACK to work.!Thanks Kim for coming)

"Original Hardcores"who participated-- Other than those already mentioned, there were these: Johnny Rader,Bobby Wawak, Joe Crosby, Darryl Swann, Lee Stone, Joe Lewright, Sylvia Arzola (I had a blast with you Syl, Thanks), Caren Wallace (a late arriver due to previous committments, but COULDN'T stay away from all the fun LOL), Michael Shepperd (Class of 81, but he is the definition of "hardcore"), Donnie Finger(my pard) and yours truly. I didnt arrive at Liz's until 6:00,so I may have missed someone. I apologize if I didnt mention anyone.Im old and I have memory issues, so there. Anyway it was a great event, and once again Thanks Liz for all the great work you did putting this together.

See you kids at the next one. Maybe March?

Your friend and fellow lunatic

Jeff
